HANS for Insomnia and Depression

One in three people suffer from insomnia of some form. Difficulty falling asleep at the beginning of the night is often associated with anxiety disorders. Waking during the middle of the night and difficulty maintaining sleep is often associated with pain disorders or medical illness. Early morning waking is often a characteristic of clinical depression.

To treat insomnia due to anxiety or depression, apply the skin electrodes to the acupoints HeGu and LaoGong on both hands. Other acupoints such as NeiGuan/WaiGuan or ZuSanLi/SanYinJiao should have a similar effect. Select low frequency wave forms such as 2Hz or 5Hz. Use the A+/- and B+/- keys to slowly bring the stimulation intensity to a comfortable level. Usually, at the intensity of 5mA, users start to feel the electric pulse. The intensity can be increased depending on the acupoint location and individual sensitivity. Twice a week treatment may work better than daily treatment.
